TREASURE TROVE OF TOURISM : CHANDERBHAGA REGION

The entire Chanderbhaga region is a Treasure trove of tourism with immense potential.
Chanderbhaga is the river flowing through the Kishtwar, Doda and Ramban district of Jammu Division in J&K. The river in Urdu called Chenab & in sanskriti it is Asikni is a major river that flows in India and Pakistan with its total length of 1200km. It rises in the upper Himalayas in the Lahaul and Spiti district of himachal pardesh. The chanderbhaga river meant that it was seen to have dark-coloured waters.

 In the Mahabharata, the common name of River was “Chandrabhaga” because the river is formed form the confluence of the Chandra and the Bhaga rivers. The Chandra and Bhaga confluence at tandi-in the U.T of Jammu and Kashmir nearly 9090 feets above mean Sea level.


Chanderbhaga River finds its origin in Nilamatapurana as nectar clear holy river having its imminence of originality form higher reaches while Confluencing Chandra(Moon), with Bhaga(virtue of Luck).

Two streams nearly Chandra and Bhaga rises on the opposite side of the Baralacha pass at an elevation of 4891 meters. The Chandra river transverse 115km before the confluence and the Bhaga rivers transverse through narrow gorges a distance of 60 km before confluence at Tandi. The name chenab acronymized a person derivation Moon(Chen) and Water (Aab).

 The Chanderbhaga river defacto laps Pangi Valley, down below Dharwas, Padder, Banderkote, Marwah, Warwan Nun/kun Peaks adjoining Zanskar and thence gushes down with fiery-flaming foam of water-joins Siraj are of Doda and Ramban District.


On the other side of Pride Chanderbhaga region exists the Lush Green, vibrant and Salubrious mountains, cliffs and other uplands, the most enchanting and bewildering multihued Pines,  Quercuses adopted by evergreen flowery and honey dewed meadows. The Chanderbhaga region has most hilly terrain and also known for its high mountaineers delight since british era.


 In this region there are many trekking routes like Omasla trek, Kabbemla trek, Potla trek, Sarsangla trek, Mounla trek etc. and many Sightseeings like Darllang nallah, Bujas nallah, Barnaj nallah, Chandimata Mandir, LossaniGompa, Naag stone at Darllang Nallah.

 The Chanderbhaga region is home to variety of ethnic groups. Among the languages spoken in Chanderbhaga are Kashmiri and its dialects kishtwari, Siraji, Dogri, Bhaderwahi and Pogali are most spoken languages in the region.

Kishwar: It is the district of the Indian Union Territory of J&K of India. It is situated on the bank of the Chanderbhaga River. It is referred  in the Rajatarangini by ancient time name Kashthavata. Kishtwar is the land of harmonious culture and variety of Spoken Languages. Socially, culturally, linguistically and Ethnically it may not be a homogenous unit but both educated and uneducated speak the same language. The area of Chowgan is known as the crown of Kishtwar. Saffron of purest quality I produced in the iron rich soil at Pohhal, in kishtwar. It is endowed with dence forest of deodav, fir and pine.


Machail: It is small village at an altitude of 2959m in the utmost scenic padder valley of kishtwar. The Machail Mata is a Goddess Durga Shrine popularly known as Machail Mata, located in the village Machail from where its name derived. It is popularly known as a landscape of unblemished beauty with hills, glaciers and tributaries of the Chanderbhaga river. Padder valley, nearby is famous for its world Sapphire mines and is a cool place for hicking, cannoning and holly hot springs.


Doda: Doda is a district in the Indian U.T of J&K. It has an average, elevation of 1,107 meters. The district doda is situated at the bank of river Chanderbhaga and was established in 1948 craved out of the erstwhile Udhampur district. Some beautiful places of district Doda like Bhaderwah, Thathri, Marmat, Bhagwa, Kashtigarh, etc.


Bhaderwah: Bhaderwah is a town and tehsil of the Doda district. The bhaderwah valley is located in the foorhills of the Himalayan mountains 80km form Batote. It is also known as “Mini- kashmir” and “Naagon ki Bhoomi” meaning the land of Naags, the valley is rich in it sown culture. The Mela Patt and Kailash Yatra are two of the most important festivals of the valley. Earlier the town was known by the name of “Hettary Nagar”. Bhaderwah fort is the place of pride for erstwhile kings of Chamba and Bhaderwah. The fort is gorgeous with quite a few praise worthy greassands, unexplored valley, glittering waterbodies, rocky terrain and rich variety of flora and fama. The Scoj Meadow is the Shiinig diamond and amazingly beautiful and the pious Kailash-kund in the southern region with its snow-covered mountains. This place is like a dream come true.


Batote: It is town in Ramban district on NH44., just beyond Patnitop while going toward Srinagar. Batote is very green and has many mountains. Snowfall in winter every year makes this place really awesome. Some famous picnic spots Patnitop and Sanasar are located 14km and 32km from Batote. The India’s longest tunnel “Dr. Syama Prasad Mookherjee Tunnel” adds more beauty for this town. The length of the India’s longest tunnel is 9.2km and its reduced the distance from Jammu to Srinagar by 31km.


Ramban: Ramban is a district in the Indian U.T of J&K. It is located in the lap of Pir Panjal range of the mighty Himalayas. It was craved out of erstwhile Doda district. The town is located midway between Jammu and Srinagar along the Chenab river in Chanderbhaga region approximately 150km from Jammu and

Srinagar. In Ramban there are many tourist places like- Sanasar, Tata-Pani, Pogal Paristan, Daggon Top, Chemsar Top, Shinkhli Top, Tanj Maidan, The Hill Station of Nowgaon Valley North Banihal, Hansraj Top, Malsar, Shakhpall hills, Sharva Dhar, Gala Dhar, Gajpat Qilla, Bajkote, Jhatgalli, and Rajgarh.


Pogal Paristan: It is known as the land of fairies. Pogal and Paristan are both rivers and they together give the name to this area. It is situated about 35kms from District headquarters Ramban.

 It is totally Hilly area amd consists of some beautiful visting places like- Sargali, Sunseri, Gagan Top, NAndigrh, HansRaj peaks, Sharvadhar and the beautiful Gugli Meadows are said to be the place with visiting here. The inhabitants of the area mainly depends upon agriculture activities and used to grow crops of all seasons like Maize, potatoes, Pulses, etc. the area has a potential of horticulture activities.

All these places are in the Lap of Pride Chanderbhaga region he most enhancing and bewildering on the crowned paradise of India in Jammu and Kashmir. An aerial view of Patnitop, Batote, Sanasar, Chanderkote, Ramban, Banihal, Dessa, Siraj, Chinta, Hanga, Bhalessa, Atholi, Inderwal, Machail, Qacchan, Pogal and kishtwar high altitude national park some 250 km is a home to many kaleipodoscopic rare animals and birds gives a panoramic picture of Chanderbhaga region.


This is what else beautiful natural beauty though as yet hidden treasure trove folded alike and cocooned and beyond all ambiguousness are quite matching Kashmir valley a heaven on earth.
