Teacher means we learn from our past. If such incident didn't happen in past, today we are not what we have. By learning from past, we become what we have. If our past was good, we recall and cry and wish, "Please, past moments come back," but they never come back, and we feel bad and become sad. We need to not recall past because they never come back and we can't change the past. If we recall past, we have to respect past as a teacher. As we respect our teacher, we need to respect past as teacher taught many things; same past helps us to learn.life has a simple formula: look back and thank God, look ahead and trust God, and always respect Past and enjoy life and become a living, working monk . Was the British rule in India a 'ban or boon'? If so, why

British Raj  classified into three eras

  1. East India Company 1612–1757
  2. Company rule in India 1757–1858
  3. British Raj 1858–1947

1st period of East India Company (1612–1757)

  • The East India Company arrived to India as a truly trading company which has exclusive Charter granted by Queen Elizabeth I.
  • The company till 1765 obtained the Diwani (tax collecting Rights) Of Bengal Bihar and Orissa by defeating the joint army of Young Nawab Of Bengal Mir Qasim, Nawab of Awadh Shuja-Ud-Daulah, and the Mugal emperor of that time Shah Alam II, In the Battle of Buxur.
  • The Battle of Buxur is also Know as the founding stone of Britsh Raj in India.

Consequences and Condition of India after the war

  1. The East India company started charging an exorbitant amount of taxes on the Indians resulting in deplorable conditions for the peasants.
  2. Famines and crop failures too didn’t make them lowers the tax rates
  3. The humiliating Treaty of Allahabad was imposed on Shuja-Ud-Daulah & Shah Aam-II by Robert Clive. This was just the beginning of the advent of Britsh in India. They gradually went on annexing a major part of India by hook or crook.

Company rule in India 1757–1858

After obtaining the Diwani Right, the employees of East India Company Became rich instead of East India Company. The company went into massive debt. this was a clear sign that the officials of EIC were heavily corrupt.

Looking at the situation the British Crown assumed the power of India Under itself and a series of acts were passed to rule India as a Territory or colony of the British.

Pitt’s India Act was one such act that for the first time declared India as the “British Possession”

Taking a look into the conditions of India under the second phase of British Rule

  1. The exploitation of the Indian Peasetns to grow Indico
  2. Domestic handicrafts and trade was ruined
  3. By this time India has become the land of British-made finished goods and exporter of cheap raw materials for the British Industries.
  4. By the mid of 18th century the European countries including Great Britain were witnessing the Ist Industrial Revolution and in contrary to this India was into the trap of famine, poverty, and brutal exploitation of the British.
  5. The drain of wealth from India was at a massive rate-making Indians suffer each day

British Raj 1858–1947

By this time a hot ground for India's mass independence struggle was ready. this period saw many massive revolts both violent and non-violent.

  • Non-Cooperationtion Movement
  • Dandi March
  • Chauri Chusa incident
  • The bombing of the Legislative Assembly by Bhagat Singh, C.S Asaz, Raj Guru, and others
  • The Jalliamwala Bagh Massacre

Critically analyzing the British Raj (Boon)

  1. Abolition of Sati
  2. The building of railways and roads and other critical infra
  3. Brought massive part of India together under one flag even larger than Ashoka, Harshvardhna, and Akbar
  4. Protected from invaders from North-Western Part of India i.e Afghanistan

Critically analyzing the British Raj (Bane)

  1. Looted the wealth of India and also hassared exploited the Indian. Left India with a GDP of 2.
  2. Kept India Backward, No social and Educational Reforms. India had a literacy rate of 4% at the time of independence.

I believe the British Raj was more of a Bane for India. What is your opinion?
